The 3 Littles Acres Farm laying hen flock keeps a few roosters in the mix. Not only does this provide that classic morning wake up call on the farm and provide a little extra protection for the ladies, it also enables us to have fertile eggs for hatching! We use a mob breeding approach on our flock and select our best roosters to stay in the flock.

Our mob breeding approach results in some interesting birds as many of the common breeds you may be familiar with combine to create some unique combinations. You can expect your birds to lay mostly brown eggs, however, there are genes in the barnyard to produce whites, creams, blues, and greens.

A few things to remember about hatching eggs:

• There is no way to determine the sex of a chick until after it hatches and each egg has a 50/50 chance on gender. You should expect about equal amounts of hens and roosters in any given order.

• We can not guarantee a hatch rate on these eggs. Our own hatch rates range from 80-90% but this is dependent on how you handle the eggs from delivery through the incubation phase.
